The Anglo-Boer War saw some of the largest, bravest, and botched actions in the history of the British Army. Over 50 of these were fought in the Johannesburg-Pretoria-Swartruggens-Val Area and many of the battle sites are remarkably preserved to this day.

Self Drive Tour

We will design the tour to suit your preference without missing out on some of the great battle sites such as Diamond Hill, Rhenosterkop, Witpoort ,Balmoral, Bakenlaagte, Wilmansrust, Grootvlei ,Whisky Train Incident, Visit the historic Val Hotel and surrounding area rich with battles and skirmishes ‘amongst the farms.
Rhenosterkop-Self Drive & Cheese Farm
Self drive tour starting with the drive to the top of the majestic Rhenosterkop for an overview of the complete Battlefield we then travel on with further stops and exclusive access to Gen Viljoens and Mullers laagers. *We finish the day at Qodesh Cheese Farm where you can sample the cheese boards have afternoon tea and feed the goats *Optional
Rhenosterkop/Balmoral Weekend-( Guests can arrive Friday evening)
Staying at the wonderful and historic Dirks Place with camping or Chalets options our tour starts Saturday morning ,covering Rhenosterkop followed by a game drive or 4×4 experience .After a wholesome Sunday Breakfast provided by Dirk we visit the family cemetery of General Hertzog and then drive the farm roads to Balmoral where we explore the battle site and visit the concentration camp.
